Adafruit 2927 DC Motor + Stepper FeatherWing Add-on For All Feathe…

Adafruit FeatherWing Add-ons For All Feather Boards – Adafruit 2927, The Adafruit DC Motor + Stepper FeatherWing Add-ons will let you use 2 x bi-polar stepper motors or 4 x brushed DC motors (or 1 stepper and 2 DC motors). That’s enough for a cool 4-wheel drive robot or the X and Y axis for a 3D printer. Adafruit have taken their popular Motor Shield and made it smaller, lighter and with a useful upgrade. These motor drivers use a dedicated PWM chip to take the load off your Feather main board. Each board has 4 x H-bridges that can source 1.2A per bridge and are protected by thermal shutdown. These let you drive 4 x bi-directional DC motors with 12-bit speed selection or 2 x stepper motors, unipolar or bipolar with single coil, double coil, interleaved or micro-stepping. For safety, the motors are disabled at power up.The power inputs are protected against reverse polarity and the power in and motor drive outputs have good solid 3.5mm terminal blocks so you can connect 1.5 to 2.3mm OD wire. With 5 x I2C address selection jumper pads you could stack 32 of these boards for a total 64 x steppers or 128 x DC motors. That’s enough for 16 x 3D printers or one 63D printer, either way you’re going to need a considerable power supply.Adafruit have a free tutorial and software library for the bigger but similar Motor Shield which will get you off to a racing start. Take a look at our stepper motors and DC motors but remember you are looking for ones that need 1.2A or less per coil and can run at 4.5 to 13.5V DC. We also carry a wide range of power supplies.
